On the strength of much improved first team performances on both sides of the ball, as well as tight special teams coverage by the New Orleans Saints, they have won their preseason game against the Oakland Raiders by the final score of 28-20 in the Mercedes Benz Superdome .
The return of Dennis Allen (former Saints assistant coach) and Matt Flynn (2008 BCS title-game-winning LSU quarterback) didn't garner much favor for the visitors as the Saints jumped out to an early 23-0 lead before hanging for the eventual eight-point victory.
Turnovers by backups (and maybe soon-to-be former Saints) Travaris Cadet and Seneca Wallace really turned the tide in the second half, leading to 13 straight Raiders points.
In a bittersweet occasion, this game also featured longtime Superdome announcer Jerry Romig making his final appearance behind the mic in a job he has held for 44 years and a string of 445 games. Happy Trails, Jerry, you will be missed!
