New Orleans Saints 2013 Roster Projection: Training Camp Week Two Edition

Here's a fresh crack at the Saints final 53-man roster following one week of training camp action.

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sport

After the first week of New Orleans Saints training camp, a lot of changes have been made to my predictions for the final 53-man roster. Players have been substituted, and the amount of players in specific position groups has fluctuated. Be sure to refer back to my initial pre-training camp 53-man roster projection.

Quarterbacks (2)

Drew Brees, Ryan Griffin

Analysis: Griffin has been standing out in camp so far. Of course he has made some 'rookie mistakes,' but they are lessening by the day; not to mention he has made some pretty throws. He has the edge over Seneca Wallace for now because he is nursing a groin injury.

***

Running Backs (4)

Mark Ingram, Pierre Thomas, Darren Sproles, Khiry Robinson

Analysis: No changes have happened here. Other than the big three (Thomas, Ingram, Sproles), there hasn't been much word on the running backs.

***

Fullbacks (1)

Jed Collins

Analysis: Jed Collins has proved that he can be the lone fullback on the roster. I think they will carry only one fullback not because Austin Johnson isn't capable, but because they need extra roster spots elsewhere.

***

Wide Receivers (6)

Marques Colston, Lance Moore, Joe Morgan, Nick Toon, Andy Tanner, Kenny Stills

Analysis: Everything remains the same in this group except for the substitution of Andy Tanner for Courtney Roby. Tanner has been trying to crack the final roster for three years now, and I think he will finally get a chance in 2013. He has been making some excellent plays in camp. Nick Toon has been getting a lot of praise as well.

***

Tight Ends (2)

Jimmy Graham, Ben Watson

Analysis: Just like the fullbacks, the Saints will be sparse with tight ends. But because Graham and Watson are both above average tight ends, they can afford to do so.

***

Offensive Line (9)

Charles Brown, Terron Armstead, Marcel Jones, Zach Strief, Jason Smith, Jahri Evans, Ben Grubbs, Andrew Tiller, Brian de la Puente

Analysis: No changes to this group. Jason Smith isn't having a pretty camp, though. He is walking on thin ice with his roster spot.

***

Defensive Line (7)

Cam Jordan, Kenyon Coleman, Tom Johnson, Tyrunn Walker, Akiem Hicks, John Jenkins, Brodrick Bunkley

Analysis: No changes here, but keep an eye on Tom Johnson. He has been bothered by a hip injury for the past couple days of camp.

***

Linebackers (9)

Martez Wilson, Eric Martin, Will Smith, Junior Galette, Rufus Johnson, Chris Chamberlain, Jonathan Vilma, Ramon Humber, Curtis Lofton

Analysis: We have quite a few changes to this group. Ramon Humber has been playing inside linebacker (as opposed to where I had him on the outside) so far in camp. He has been lining up with the second team and even the first team at times. To replace him on the outside, I chose rookie Eric Martin. He has quietly been having a good camp and has been rewarded with second-team snaps. I also decided to add rookie Rufus Johnson into the roster as well. He seems to be another one of those "diamond in the rough" type of guys with his raw talent. In the inside, Chase Thomas has been taken away for Chris Chamberlain. Chamberlain was supposed to produce for the Black and Gold last year, but he went down with a season ending injury in camp. I expect him to pick back up where he left off.

***

Cornerbacks (5)

Keenan Lewis, Patrick Robinson, Jabari Greer, Corey White, Chris Carr

Analysis: I decided that the Saints could really benefit from an extra corner with the remaining roster spot. Chris Carr has been rotating in with the ones and twos throughout camp and has been playing well. Keep an eye on Rod Sweeting, though. These guys will both be battling it out for a spot in the next month.

In other news on the Saints corners, Keenan Lewis has been defined as "the Saints best DB", and Patrick Robinson could be hitting the field again soon.

***

Safeties (5)

Roman Harper, Isa Abdul-Quddus, Kenny Vaccaro, Malcolm Jenkins, Rafael Bush

Analysis: Everything stays the same here except for the substitution of Rafael Bush for Jim Leonhard. Leonhard isn't getting any younger and Bush has been producing well so far in camp.

***

Special Teams (3)

Thomas Morstead (P), Garrett Hartley (PK), Justin Drescher (LS)

Analysis: No changes to this group.

What do you guys think the Saints' 2013 53-man roster will look like?
