As we wait for the 2014 Super Bowl next weekend, the closest thing we have to football is the NFL's first "un-conferenced" Pro Bowl, which airs this evening. With the NFL trying something different this year in hopes of making the event more interesting, Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders each picked teams from those players selected to the Pro Bowl. Team Rice -- with Drew Brees as captain -- ended up being "Team Saints," when Jimmy Graham and Cameron Jordan joined Brees, Ben Grubbs and Jahri Evans during Wednesday's draft announcements.
For all of the NFL's attempts to create interest in the Pro Bowl, the idea of watching the event seems to engender an overwhelming apathy and general feeling of malaise among football fans. Even nature seems to be weighing in on the matter... as rain is threatening to dampen the evening for the typically-pleasant Honolulu. With only one more NFL game remaining until the 2014 preseason, however, this evening's event gives football fans another reason to gather and socialize.
