Where Were You: Jim Mora's "Diddly-Poo" Rant

On October 20, 1996, Saints Coach Jim Mora blasted his team in an infamous post game rant that is still referenced to this day. Where were you for this moment?

The 1996 New Orleans Saints season was a flat-out disaster from the very beginning. It was the worst season of the Mora regime, and arguably one of the worst seasons the Saints have had over the last three decades. Every frustration Coach Mora had that season came erupting out in a soundbite for the ages, following a 19-7 loss at Carolina in their Sophomore season. Their second loss to their new NFC West rival left the Saints with a 2-6 record, and immediately following the game, Coach Mora launched into this instantly classic tirade:

I'll start the conversation:

I had finished high school here in Los Angeles in '96, and like the rest of you, I was trudging through the awful '96 season with little hope for the Saints. The offense led by Jim Everett and Mario Bates struck fear in no one, and inspired confidence in even fewer. The defense? Well… there was Wayne Martin, and that's about it. That season, in Mora's words, "sucked".

I didn't see the Carolina game or the ensuing press conference as they happened, but I do remember seeing the coverage on SportsCenter later that evening, just like the video above. That video is pretty hilarious now, and has been for quite some time, but at that moment, I wasn't amused. In fact, I was as angry as Coach Mora was when I saw the highlight and the rant. He was right, every word of it, unfortunately he was talking about our team.

The next day, Mora resigned as Saints head coach. I thought it was time for a fresh start and looked forward to the 1997 season and a new head coach. If only I knew what was waiting right around the corner for us all. Wait Coach Mora, come back!

Now it's your turn, tell us your stories, memories, and impressions from this infamous post game rant. Where were you, Who Dat Nation?
