NFL Free Agency 2014: New Orleans Saints Sign Safety Jairus Byrd to 6-Year Deal

The New Orleans Saints make their first move of the 2014 NFL free agency period by signing former Bills safety Jairus Byrd.

The New Orleans Saints have signed former Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd to a 6-year contract, per Greg Bensel on Twitter. Byrd came into town for a visit tonight, and it looks like he's leaving with a contract.

Gotta say I'm surprised. As per usual, Mickey Loomis worked his magic and landed a top level free agent with little to work with.

Byrd will will be expected to start at free safety, taking the spot left vacant by Malcolm Jenkins, who was signed by the Eagles today.

The terms of the contract are as of yet unknown, but Andrew Brandt has a little wisdom to share.
