For those who haven't been following along,we've got a full 64-person bracket packed with all the ghosts from Saints past that you love to hate. We're going matchup by matchup, choosing the more hated Saints figure each time, until we've finally crowned a winner as the most hated person in Saints history.
The full tournament can be found directly below. Our next matchup today is between the No. 29 Carl Smith vs. No. 36 ranked Kevin Houser.
Your decision can be based on anything you'd like, whether it's on the field performance, off the field antics, or anything in between. I highly encourage those veteran fans to share there memories of some of the older persons in question and make their arguments for or against. Younger members may want to wait and read what the veterans have to say before placing their vote.
To help you make your decision here's a little more info on today's contestants, courtesy of BewareofDog:
Carl Smith (OC 1986-1996) - The former offensive coordinator under Jim Mora has never gotten much love from Saints fans due to his "conservative" play calling (to put it mildly). You had to be a Saints fan in those days sitting in the stands or watching on television to know the frustration of seeing the same plays called in the same situations and watching defensive players licking their chops because they knew what was coming. Sean Payton gets grief from Saints fans for his over aggressive play calling but at least his teams scores points and are consistently in the top 5 of NFL offenses each year. Carl Smith could be considered the Anti-Payton with his polar opposite approach to offensive football, along with the fact that he always looked on the sidelines like he just came back from the locker room taking a dump.
Kevin Houser (OL 2000-2008) - The Bernie Madoff of the New Orleans Saints. For those that don't remember, Houser, a licensed securities broker, was sued by several Saints players and coaches including Drew Brees, Sean Payton, Gary Gibbs, Jeremy Shockey, Charles Grant and others for ripping them off financially in a scheme to invest roughly $2 million to buy nonexistent tax credits from a defunct movie studio.
Voting will be open for exactly 48 hours from the time of publish. Voting results and brackets will be updated as we go along.
