NFL Mock Draft 2014: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Select Blake Bortles

With the seventh overall pick in the 2014 Canal Street Chronicles community mock draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (represented by russty) select...

Douglas Jones-US PRESSWIRE

Blake Bortles, QB, UCF

If Blake Bortles is still on the board, Lovie Smith has no choice but to take the best overall quarterback in the 2014 draft. Like Carl Hungus in the movie "Log Jamming," Lovie Smith was sent in to fix the "cable," and we all know what happens next. He fixes the cable.

I know, I know, Mike Glennon had a good year and they just brought in Josh McCown. It would appear that Lovie would go on and fill one of the many other holes with this pick. Some say they just might need a receiver. I think I may have read that somewhere, and even though Sammy Watkins is gone, Mike Evans would seem to be a great choice, but "That's just the fear talking dude. They pick Watkins, so we're supposed reach for Evans, you want a receiver? I'll get you a receiver with or without purple nail polish."

To me Mike Evans has about a one and six chance of being the second best receiver in this years draft. It's not like he's "human paraquat" or anything like that but, First picked (or as in this case second picked) isn't always the best pick. Reaching for Evans would be "very undude."

"Lots of strands in the old Duder's head". Brandin Cooks, Odell Beckham, Kelvin Benjamin, Marqise Lee, Jarvis Landry, Devante Adams and a homer pick Donte Moncrief of Ole Miss. In this years crop of receivers, there's Sammy Watkins a legit top 3 pick, and a bunch of other promising guys. That's really good news for Tampa. Lovie will abide.

New coach, new quarterback. McCown signed a two year deal so he's probably not the future, and I wouldn't bet my NFL life on Glennon. Lovie needs a guy to "really tie the room together", and this guy just fell in his lap.

The only question mark to me is, he played in the American Athletic Conference against the likes of Temple and Akron, hardly the best competition. Lovie should bring in a real good veteran quarterback to help the kid pick up the pro game, and maybe start the first few games of the season or even more. Someone like Josh McCown.

I really don't think Blake Bortles will be on the board at seven, I'd be so shocked I would spill my beverage, a White Russian of course. Well that's my story, and I know most here will disagree with me so let the "Micturition" begin.
