NFL Mock Draft 2014: St. Louis Rams Select Ha Ha Clinton-Dix

After losing Darian Stewart to the Ravens in free-agency, the Rams don't have any real viable options on the back end. Stewart himself wasn't a great fit at free safety as he is more of a run support thumper and likely more suited to SS as opposed to FS, which could have lead to the Rams letting him walk. Even had Stewart remained in St. Louis it is likely they would have drafted Ha Ha as he is a true coverage FS and has shown good range and some ball hawk ability. Add in that Gregg Williams is the defensive coordinator and needs a true centerfield-style safety for his defense to be at its best and drafting Clinton-Dix at 13 is a no-brainer.

In 3 seasons with Alabama's pro-style defense in a very tough SEC, Ha Ha posted 98 tackles, 7 interceptions and 9 break-ups. He will be drafted with the expectation to make the transition and start right away.

Calvin Pryor may also be an option here, but I see Williams and Fisher both looking more for coverage over run support. Other needs are OT and WR, but neither of these is feasible at pick 13, especially when you can fill a key cog in the defense without having to reach.
