NFL Mock Draft 2014: San Diego Chargers Select Kelvin Benjamin

With the twenty-fifth overall pick in the 2014 Canal Street Chronicles community mock draft, the San Diego Chargers (represented by Lostastic) select...

Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Florida State

Kelvin Benjamin would be a best available pick here at the 25th draft pick. WR is a need but not necessary a high priority for the Chargers. With many of the defensive lineman off the board and the top CBs, I look to selecting Kelvin Benjamin as a pick that has a high upside. A safe pick.

The Chargers are wanting to getting back to those 2006-09 Norv Turner playoff runs days; after making the playoffs last year. Offensive-minded head coach, Mike McCoy would love to give his QB, Phillip Rivers, another weapon. Rivers had a Pro Bowl year throwing 32 TDs and 4,478 yds with a QB Rating of 105.5. A big target like 6'5" 240 Benjamin can be used opposite of Keenan Allen. Allen had a great rookie season with 71 rec and 1,046 yds. Danny Woodhead gathered up yards rushing and receiving exactly how D. Sproles was used in New Orleans.

I see the Bolts trying to create their own prolific offense like we have in New Orleans or AFC West division rival, Denver Broncos. Besides Keenan Allen, the Bolts WRs are Vincent BrownEddie Royal, and after suffering a neck injury last year, Malcolm Floyd is set to return in 2014. Benjamin could copy the steps of Allen's rookie season. He could come in not expected to start and learn from the veteran WRs before making an impact later in the season. Allen stepped up after Malcolm Floyd's injury last Sept. 15 in Philadelphia. Allen was nominated for Offensive Rookie of the Year but lost to Green Bay's RB Eddie Lacy in 2013. With Benjamin the Bolts would have enough depth on offense to compete for the division against Denver and Kansas City who also made the playoffs with highly efficient offenses.

Overview
2013: Second Team All-ACC. Led conference with 15 receiving TDs, which also tied FSU single-season record. Played only three years at Glades (Fla.) Central.-Nolan Nawrocki (NFL.com)
