NOPD Scrambling to Comply with Federal Mandate and Meet Mercedes Dome Security Obligations

A Federal Mandate limiting the number of hours New Orleans Police officers can work, is causing staffing problems for tonight's game against the Tennessee Titans.

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The Federal Decree states that the officers can only work, 16 hours in any 24 hour period. This causes problem on week night games. The City is under contract to provide a set number of officers during New Orleans Saints games.

I first saw this in an article at NOLA.com. The city filed for and was granted a waiver for tonight's game, but what does it mean for security at the dome in the future. The Police department has typically draw the required officers from an approved list of 200. Further complicating things, is the 10 percent pay cut said officers are being forced to take.

So while the issue appears to have been resolve for tonight, what do you think about this, and will this have any serious affect on future games at the Mercedes Superdome?
