Saints News, 8/8/14: Drew Brees Unlikely To Play Tonight vs. Rams

Expect to see a lot of Ryan Griffin (our future Brees?) and Luke McCown tonight. Drew Brees hasn't been officially ruled out, but it seems safe to assume he won't play after not practicing all week. Why would he? This is preseason and we already know very well what he can do. No need to risk further injury in a meaningless preseason game. Plus, if the sports media can be believed, Gregg Williams is going to unleash hell on the Saints' offense and probably meet Sean Payton and Joe Vitt at midfield for a fist fight of epic proportions. The NFL and sports media do love to build up their drama.

QB Drew Brees: Has missed the last four games with left oblique strain. The Saints have not ruled Brees out, but there isn’t much incentive to put him on the field for a preseason game. If he is unable to play, Ryan Griffin and Luke McCown should see a good amount of snaps.

Saints, Gregg Williams reunion coming tonight | ProFootballTalk
Two years ago, the Saints’ season became derailed by the cartoonish comments and conduct of defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who brought to the Bayou a so-called bounty program that he reportedly used with other NFL teams.  In lieu of venturing down the proverbial rabbit hole, the NFL plugged it with cement, threw the book at the Saints, and moved on.
