Todd Davis Released from Saints Practice Squad and QB Ryan Griffin Signed

During today's post practice interview coach Sean Payton announce the moves.

During the post practice interview Sean announced that Todd Davis was released and Ryan Griffin was signed to the practice squad. I think this was pretty much expected to happen if Ryan Griffin cleared waivers.

Coach said today's practice concentrated largely on 3rd down situations.  When asked about the 4 running backs, Sean said Mark Ingram and Khiry Robinson were both ready to be every down backs. Also said that while Mark had been important as a blocker, Khiry Robinson has made a lot of improvement in this area, as a second year player. Pierre Thomas does all things well, and Travaris Cadet as well as being versatile in passing situations, has progressed in the running game, this season. Travis also makes important contributions in the team's kicking game.

On the Junior Galette contract extension, Sean Payton said he is a player who had to come up from the bottom. Voted a team captain by the players last week, Junior just bring such energy to the practices, and has improved every year. It's great when you can reward someone like Galette,  and the rest of the team is inspired by him and his play. Had a great season and 2013 and look forward to seeing him this year.

This was an interesting question and answer. Sean was asked who would be the emergency QB should both Drew Brees and Luke McCown go down. He said Lance Moore had that potential position in the past, but that this year, with the players on the roster,  Travaris Cadet and Jairus Byrd would be the players most likely to fill in. He said that Byrd's numbers were better, I'm guessing in high school, but that Travaris played in college, so it would be him.

Those were the highlights, besides a few good jokes from coach, like we sent Tony Gonzales a retirement card, etc.
