Welcome to Saints Gameday!
Tonight:
Dallas Cowboys (2-1) at New Orleans Saints (0-3)
The Saints look to finally earn their first win of the season tonight as they host their longtime NFC rivals from Dallas. Only three games in, and its already been a trying and disappointing season, but defeating such a bitter rival may be just what the Saints and Who Dat Nation need to get things turning in a more positive direction.
The first step in moving in a more positive direction is the encouragingly small injury list for tonight's game. Jahri Evans remains out for the second straight week, but Drew Brees makes his return at quarterback tonight after missing his first game due to injury as a Saint last week at Carolina. More surprisingly, tonight marks the first appearances of the season for linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, cornerback Keenan Lewis, and safety Jairus Byrd, who many believed was just a communal hallucination. These three players will likely see limited action and playing on a "pitch count" by the coaching staff tonight, but it's very encouraging to just have them back on the field.
Dallas, of course, will be without the services of quarterback Tony Romo and wide receiver Dez Bryant, but rookie pass rusher Randy Gregory will also be out for tonight's game. By wearing their white jerseys, New Orleans is forcing Dallas to wear their rarely-used blue jerseys, which will be interesting to see. In many ways, this may not be the matchup NBC thought they were getting before the season started, but that is of no concern to the Saints. This team just needs to go out there and grind out a win, style points don't mean a thing when you're 0-3.
It's time to get the first win and build upon it. Don't think it's possible? Remember, strange and magical things happen when the Saints are playing in the Superdome on Sunday Night Football. Who Dat!
