Saints-Buccaneers Final Score: Saints Beat Bucs 24-17

The Saints defense allowed the fewest points this season and get their first win in over a month as they defeat the Bucs 24-17 in Tampa Bay. They are now 5-8 on the season.

1st Quarter

  • Saints kick off to start the game.
  • Panthers complete a big catch and run to Vincent Jackson on the first play of the game but a holding call brings it back.
  • Saints defense force a punt! Woah!
  • Ben Watson makes a sweet catch for 26 yards. Then Tim Hightower breaks off a nice 12-yard run.
  • The Saints cap off the drive with a touchdown pass to Marques Colston, just like old times. That is the 70th Brees to Colston TD pass.
  • Saints take fast 7-0 lead.

  • Saints offense goes three and out.

  • 3rd and 6 - Obum Gwacham gets the sack on Jameis Winston. Bucs have to punt again.

2nd Quarter

  • Brees hits a wide open Willie Snead deep for a 41-yard completion.
  • A 19-yard completion to Ben Watson puts the Saints deep in the red zone.
  • Colston makes his second touchdown grab of the day with an over-the-shoulder catch!
  • Saints take a big 14-0 lead.

  • Kyle Wilson called for a personal foul when he hits Doug Martin late.
  • Unbelievably, Wilson gets called for another personal foul penalty for doing the exact same thing.
  • 3rd and 10 - Jameis Winston is allowed to scramble for 18 yards and a first down. Frustrating!
  • Aaaaaaaaaand Brandon Browner gets called for holding. That's his 22nd penalty of the season and ties the NFL record.
  • Doug Martin walks into the end zone for a touchdown.
  • Saints still lead 14-7

  • 3rd and 13 - Willie Snead makes the catch but only for 12 yards. The Saints challenge the spot and win. First down!
  • 3rd and 4 - Brees drops back to pass but decides to run it himself. He doesn't get to the first down marker.
  • Saints settle for field goal.
  • Saints lead 17-7

  • Kyle Wilson gets called for another penalty. This time it's illegal contact. That helps put the Bucs in field goal range.
  • The Bucs hit a late field goal to bring the score closer.
  • Saints lead 17-10.

3rd Quarter

  • Saints start the second half with the ball and start moving down field.
  • 3rd and 1 - Brees keeps it and dives for the first down.
  • Saints punt away.

  • Doug Martin breaks off a big 21-yard run.
  • Dannell Ellerbe heads to the locker room. He just can't seem to stay healthy.
  • Brandon Browner nearly makes an interception but cannot maintain control of the ball.
  • Saints defense eventually holds them and the Bucs settle for the field gold.
  • Connor Boarth hooks his FG attempt and misses!

  • Tim Hightower getting a bunch of touches on this drive with mixed success.
  • Saints get into the red zone again and Hightower punches it in from the 3-yard line.
  • Saints lead 24-10.

4th Quarter

  • Saints go three and out.

  • Bucs called for offensive pass interference. Then they're called for unnecessary roughness.
  • Damian Swann is down with another injury and needs help to get off the field. The dude cannot catch a break.
  • Kenny Vaccaro gets called for roughing the passer.
  • The Buccaneers find the end zone on a TD pass and the comeback campaign has started.
  • Saints still up 24-17.

  • 3rd and 10 - Zach Strief called for false start.. Bad penalty.
  • Saints forced to punt.
