Mel Kiper Mock Draft 2015: Saints Select Brandon Scherff

For the first time this year, Mel Kiper has the Saints selecting someone on the offensive side of the ball in the 2015 NFL draft.

ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper has released version 3.0 of his 2015 NFL mock draft just before the free agency period begins on March 10th and totally changes everything.

Kiper has the Saints selecting OT Brandon Scherff from Iowa. Here is how he defends his choice:

Analysis: The Saints could end up cutting one of their guards and couldn't do any better in adding a replacement in the draft if Scherff is still available here. I've said before I see Scherff as a high-floor addition on the offensive line, because even if he doesn't stay at tackle I think he can become a dominant guard pretty early on. The player isn't a facsimile, but you can make a comparison to how Dallas drafted Zack Martin and moved him inside as a rookie and saw him flourish; I think the Saints can count on immediate dividends from Scherff. He's one of the more dominant run-blocking linemen we've seen in the draft in the past few years, and he brings experience and the ability to take on the job like a professional right away.

Now this is an interesting pick. Scherff isn't the first offensive tackle off the board, however, which means Kiper doesn't think he's the best. Not sure it's worth such a high first round pick if you can't get the best player available at his position. But every other player that's ever been mocked to the Saints up to this point (Beasley, Fowler, Jr., Waynes) has already been taken.

What do you guys think?
