NFL Mock Draft 2015: Denver Broncos Select Michael Bennett

With the 28th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos (represented by Ryne Hancock) select...

Michael Bennett, DT, Ohio St.

With four straight AFC West titles as well as an appearance in Super Bowl 48, you'd think the Broncos for the most part would be a team that would rest on their laurels. However, when one of the guys in the front office is one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the NFL, winning division titles and and getting blown out in a Super Bowl is not good enough, especially when your quarterback is Peyton Manning, who as some don't like to admit, is more on the decline than anything.

Entering this year's draft, the Denver Broncos, picking #28 in the 2015 NFL Draft, defense seems to be the order of the day for what was the 16th best defensive unit in the league during the 2014 season.

Prior to sending my pick to the Commish, I had scouted three different guys for this pick, Iowa's Carl Davis, who performed exceptionally well on the field during the Senior Bowl, but apparently bombed in interviews and criticized for work ethic, Clemson's Grady Jarrett, who also had a great showing at the Senior Bowl (sidenote: everyone has a good Senior Bowl week) and Ohio State's Michael Bennett, who was one of the anchors on the 2014 national championship Buckeye squad. Out of those three I looked at, Bennett was the one that stood out to me, someone that could provide much needed depth for an aging defensive line that includes DeMarcus Ware among others.

Hailing from Centreville, Ohio, Bennett in 2014 collected 41 tackles for the Buckeyes, including 14 for loss of yardage. His 14 tackles for loss would place him sixth in the Big Ten, tying him with Michigan's Jake Ryan.

With Bennett, the Broncos will get an intelligent player with a high motor that can excel in the 4-3. He also possesses great hand eye coordination and can shed blocks. The only knock on him is if he can stay healthy, something he was unable to do in 2014.
