Welcome to another edition of Grade Dat, where we take a look at the starters and major role-players of the 2014 New Orleans Saints, put a grade value on them, and list the things we liked and the things we disliked about them in the 2014 season. We are now on to doing two players at a time, but each should be treated as an individual, like this one for Curtis Lofton.
Going into the season, hopes were high for both Jordan and Hicks, with each coming off of career highs in sacks in 2013 (Jordan with 12.5 and Hicks with 4.5)... then the season came and went, and both men failed to reach the numbers set in their respective 2013 campaigns. In a horrible season for the defensive unit as a whole, just how did Jordan and Hicks grade out for their individual play?
Voting will remain open for 48 hours from the point that the article is posted, then I will comb over the comments and average out the grade, and look for common trends in the likes and dislikes. After the final grade is calculated and comments compiled, I will post the results in a new thread and then we'll move on to another player. To avoid shenanigans, only votes made in the comment section will be considered. After grades for all the starters and major role-players are compiled, I will release the "class rankings" for the 2014 season.
The big duo at defensive end for the New Orleans Saints was thought to be one of the biggest strengths on defense going into the 2014 season. Did Cameron Jordan and Akiem Hicks show enough to maintain that outlook?
What grade does Cam Jordan deserve for his 2014 play? What did you see from him that you liked? Disliked?
What grade does Akiem Hicks deserve for his 2014 play? What did you see from him that you liked? Disliked?
Example:
Player A: B+
Pros: Quick acceleration. Has a good football IQ. Really good raw athleticism.
Cons: Lacks physical strength. Sometimes lets opponents into his head. Injury prone.
Player B: D+
Pros: Can make the occasional big play.
Cons: Playing out of his league, seems to be lost at times. Makes frustrating mistakes and untimely penalties. Showed up to camp overweight.
