Last week was the beginning of OTAs. They run Tuesday through Thursday this week and Monday through Thursday next. All OTAs are voluntary and Minicamp which runs Tuesday through Thursday of the following week is mandatory.
The Schedule:
NEW ORLEANS OTA Offseason Workouts: May 26-28, June 2-4, June 8-11
Mandatory Minicamp: June 16-18
Of last weeks OTA dates only Thursday was open to the media, and they weren't allow to tweet until after practice was over. This link will bring you to a list of local media who tweet during training camp:
I'm working Mondays through Wednesday, so the only day I'll be able to do a post will be on Thursdays.
Interesting positional battles to watch are, linebacker, cornerbacks, O-line, and the all newly important kickers battle.
As full contact is not allowed during OTAs, judging some of these positional battles will be rather difficult.
One positional battle we'll be able to obtain and idea on is the kickers battle. The new points after rules have moved the extra-point attempt from the 2 yard line out to the 15, and now allows defenses to score on blotched attempts. With the release of Shayne Graham, the battle will be between unproven kickers Zach Hocker and Dustin Hopkins. Zach was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the 7th round of the 2014 draft, and Dustin was a member of the Saints practice squad in 2014.
We should also have an opportunity to see QB Garrett Grayson, who was at the mandatory rookie symposium last week.
