Drew Brees Will Not Play Sunday Against Panthers

New, comments

For the first time in his 15-year NFL career, Drew Brees will not start a game.

In his press conference with the media today, Saints head coach Sean Payton dropped a bomb and revealed that Drew Brees will not play this Sunday against the Panthers. Brees suffered a bruised rotator cuff against the Buccaneers last week and will take some time to rehab his shoulder.

This will be the first time Brees has ever missed a game in his 15-year career. Just let that little nugget sink in for a little while.

Payton also announced backup quarterback Luke McCown will get the start on Sunday. In case you needed reminder, this is Luke McCown...

Personally, I'm in favor of the decision and I'm glad to see that's the direction they're going. I didn't think Brees would be ready for this weekend and I was genuinely concerned he would play anyway, which might do more harm than good to both Brees' shoulder and the Saints chances of winning.
