Saints fans have yet to see Jairus Byrd play a down in practice or during preseason so far this season. The big time safety has been recovering from a knee injury he suffered last year. It's been disappointing to say the least. Some fans question if he's even real.
I specifically asked NFL Network's insider Ian Rapoport whether he had first hand knowledge that Jairus Byrd was close to getting healthy. His response was very positive and one I'm sure a lot of Saints fans would be happy to hear:
This is arguably the most positive report we've heard all summer regarding Byrd's injury. So... yay!!!! He's real, and he's spectacular.
Yesterday Byrd was not placed on the PUP list, which would have made him unavailable for the first six weeks of the season. That means the Saints are expecting him to be ready to play before then. Another sign to be optimistic.
Of course, how good is he going to be? That's my concern. He's missed all of training camp. He hasn't practiced once. Now he's just going to get thrown out there. He might possibly be out of shape or out of step. I just hate the situation, not that there's anything that can be done about it. I want a Byrd at his best, that's what the Saints paid all that money for.
