According to The Advocate’s Nick Underhill, the New Orleans Saints are placing safety Erik Harris on injured reserve, promoting cornerback Brian Dixon, and signing defensive end Chris McCain to the team’s practice squad. Multiple reports have since confirmed the news.

On Tuesday, we learned that Harris had surgery to repair a torn ACL and meniscus after injuring himself from picking off a Drew Brees pass during Monday’s practice. While Harris only logged two defensive snaps all season, he led the team in special teams snaps, which would make sense why the team would bring back Brian Dixon.

As for McCain, he was acquired via a trade on August 29 from the Miami Dolphins for a conditional pick. McCain would play in the team’s preseason finale against the Baltimore Ravens, but would be among the team’s first final cuts to get down to the 53-man roster.

The former 2014 undrafted rookie free agent out of Cal would latch out with the Dallas Cowboys practice squad several days later, but was released on September 28. He’s tried out for several teams since then, but has found a home with the black and gold for now.

His personal social media accounts put out a photo that would likely confirm the move.
