Saints waive Chris Manhertz, promote Jake Lampman to active roster

The Saints made a move on Saturday, calling up a wide receiver from the practice squad.

Per the NFL Transaction Waiver Wire, the New Orleans Saints made some moves on Saturday. The team is promoting wide receiver Jake Lampman to the active roster, and waiving tight end Chris Manhertz.

It’s not uncommon to see teams make move the day before their game, and this likely means good things for tight end Josh Hill playing.

Lampman, who is an undrafted rookie free agent from Ferris State, made the Saints squad after beating out dozens of tryout players during rookie minicamp. Just the week before, he was battling for a spot with the Baltimore Ravens.

Lampman was clearly a long shot to make the roster, but kept battling and working hard to grab the attention of the coaching staff. Lampman wouldn’t survive final cuts, but was rewarded by landing a gig with the team’s practice squad.

It’s unclear if he will be active against the Carolina Panthers in Week 6. Assuming he clears waivers, look for Manhertz to return to the Saints.
