The Saints may be shopping in the tight end market this week. According to ESPN insider Field Yates, the Carolina Panthers have claimed tight end Chris Manhertz off waivers from the New Orleans.

Manhertz was just waived by the Saints on Saturday to make room for wide receiver Jake Lampman. After developing with the team’s practice squad in 2015, Manhertz would make the team after an injury to Michael Hoomanawanui. The 6-foot-6 former converted basketball star would play in three games for the Saints, logging 43 snaps on offense and 25 on special teams.
The Saints could call Garrett Griffin up from the practice squad, and also have Jake Stoneburner on there. Stoneburner is a 3-year veteran that was brought to New Orleans due to his familiarity with assistant head coach Dan Campbell.
You’d think with the Panthers defensive struggles in the secondary that the last player they’d put a waiver claim on would be a tight end with Greg Olsen and Ed Dickson playing well. However, no one saw the Saints claiming quarterback Joe Callahan.
C’est la vie.
