The Joe Callahan days in New Orleans are over as quickly as they came, as the Saints waived him on Saturday according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
Attention: Packers. Saints are waiving QB Joe Callahan today, source says. Just like GB, they want him back but need the roster spot.

Callahan was claimed by the Saints on Oct. 14 in a surprising move, and offensive lineman Khalif Barnes was released for his roster spot. He wowed the league after a stellar preseason, and would make the Green Bay Packers final 53-man roster. However, he was released because of the team’s need for a roster spot.
As Garafolo pointed out, the Saints have interest in bringing Callahan back. Although, it’s a bit hard to see him slip through the Packers grip a second time.
In a nutshell, this is what happens when your team isn’t healthy. The Saints already had six players out of action for Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, and this important spot is likely going to an offensive lineman or cornerback. Of course, that’s just speculating, but the bottom line is this is a team that needs to heal quickly sooner rather than later.
