Per the NFL Transaction Report, the New Orleans Saints are promoting linebacker Chris McCain from the practice squad in the corresponding move to the recently waived Joe Callahan.
McCain recently joined the Saints again through the practice squad on Oct. 13. He was originally acquired through a trade with the Miami Dolphins on Aug. 29 in the team’s final week of the preseason, but wouldn’t make final cuts. He signed with the Dallas Cowboys practice squad and stayed with the team up until Sept. 28, and has tried out with several teams since then.
The 2014 undrafted rookie free agent out of Cal has 18 career games in the NFL, and will likely be in on special teams and likely some subpackages for the Saints when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. The team is already without Stephone Anthony and Dannell Ellerbe, so it does makes sense.
