According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, ex-Saints and former Rams linebacker James Laurinaitis is working out with the Detroit Lions on Monday. The report emerged early in the morning.
Former Saints and Rams LB James Laurinaitis is working out today for the Detroit Lions, per source. An OSU man in Michigan country.

Laurinaitis was released from injured reserve by the Saints on Nov. 17, which permitted him to sign with any NFL team. As a veteran presence, there’s little to no question that his services could be used. Unfortunately, things just didn’t work out in New Orleans with Laurinaitis not playing particularly well in the team’s first several games and a quad injury that forced him to miss Week 4 action for the first time in his career.
Craig Robertson was shifted over to take over middle linebacker duties, and the team has made out pretty well with him as their quarterback and one of their iron men on Dennis Allen’s defense.
If Laurinaitis ends up latching on with Detroit, it would be worth noting that the Saints host the Lions in Week 13. As always, we’ll see.
