After the New Orleans Saints offense looked like the 2011 Saints Offensive Juggernaut of Old, putting up 49 points against a talented Rams defense, two players were up for NFL FedEx Player of the Week honors.
Saints QB Drew Brees passed for 310 yards, 4 TDs, and had a passer rating of 139.6. Up against the Dolphins’ Ryan Tannehill (20 of 30 for 285, 3 TDs, and a 130.6 rating) and the Redskins’ Kirk Cousins (41 of 53 for 449 yards, 3 TDs, but a 120.7 rating), Brees was able to secure his third FedEx Air Player of the Week Award this season.
Mark Ingram was able to win his first FedEx Ground Player of the Week Award this season, after rushing for 146 yards - most in the NFL last week. His opponents for the award this week were Le’Veon Bell of the Steelers (120 yards) and LeSean McCoy of the Bills (103 yards). Interestingly enough, Ingram was able to outrush both on fewer carries - Ingram had only 14 carries with Bell and McCoy netting 23 and 19 respectively.
Congratulations to Mark and Drew - now let’s do it again this week.
