The New Orleans Saints have added center Jack Allen to their active 53-man roster, per the NFL’s transaction report on Saturday afternoon. The spot was open due to Kenny Vaccaro’s four-game suspension.
You can go ahead and start speculating on whether or not veteran Max Unger will be available in an important Week 14 NFC South showdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Unger missed practice on Thursday and Friday, and is officially listed as questionable with a foot injury. Should he miss, it would likely be Tim Lelito that gets the starting gig, which would also activate Allen as the backup center
Allen, the undrafted rookie free agent from Michigan State, has been hovering around the team’s practice squad for 2016. Many may remember that Allen had issues in preseason with center-quarterback exchanges and pass coverage, however that was months ago.
Other offensive linemen like Senio Kelemete (hip) and Zach Strief (elbow) have appeared on the injury report this week, and with some eight total players questionable heading into Sunday, you just have to hope the Saints bring it all with what they have.
