I haven’t read the book so I could only tell you what I’ve read on NOLA. You can do that for yourself at NOLA.com. I do know neither Tom or Gayle Benson had any input in the book. The estranged heirs weren’t apparently involved either.
The book, titled "Tom Benson: A Billionaire's Journey", was written by Kathy Finn, and is published by Pelican Publishing Company. Finn used research and interviews to write the book. Some of the interviews were apparently with family members not involved in the recent battles. Does cover Benson’s path to riches, I guess you would say, as well as his post Katrina, San Antonio aspirations. Touches on his family tragedies, and so called ruthless business dealings. You don’t become a billionaire by being timid.
Like I’ve stated, I haven’t read the book so can’t really offer an opinion of it good or bad. If you wish to obtain a copy it is available as follows:
"Tom Benson: A Billionaire's Journey" is available in local book stores and online at Amazon.com. Finn will be signing copies of the book at the following locations: Hubbell Library, New Orleans, Dec. 6, 6:30 p.m.; Barnes & Noble, Harvey, Dec. 10, 4-6 p.m.; Barnes And Noble, Mandeville, Dec. 17, 10 a.m.-noon; East Bank Regional Library, Metairie, Dec. 21, 7 p.m.
If you do read it perhaps you can share your opinions at some time. No reactions to date by the Bensons or anyone in the Saints or Pelican organizations.
