Could Roman Harper Return to the New Orleans Saints?

If the Saints are looking to rekindle that 2009 magic, bringing back Roman Harper might be a smart move.

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Carolina Panthers voided the contract of former Saints safety Roman Harper last week, making him an unrestricted free agent when the new league year starts in March. Which immediately begs the question: would/could/should the Saints sign Harper and bring him back on the roster to finish his career?

The 33-year-old Harper hasn't stated whether he will even return to playing football next season, but if he does he'll need a new home. Given his age, I doubt he would command a significant amount of money that the Saints couldn't afford, even with their salary cap limitations.

Yes, I am fully aware Saints fans were happy to see Harper leave two years ago but the secondary hasn't exactly been exemplary since his departure. I doubt Harper would return to his starting role at strong safety but he sure would bring some much-needed depth to this defense. Not to mention his experience and veteran leadership in the locker room that the front office has been trying to bring back since guys like Harper left two years ago.

What do you guys think? Would you like to see Rome-E-Rome back in the black and gold for at least one more season?
