Jalen Ramsey, DB, Florida State
The Chargers suffered some injuries and dropped to 4-12 in 2015, following five seasons of hovering around mediocrity.
Conventional local San Diego media wisdom points to big needs along the offensive and defensive lines, and their beat-up Philip Rivers and 27th-ranked run defense would seem to back that up. While losing Pro Bowl Safety Eric Weddle in FA, they brought in CB Casey Heyward, formerly of the Green Bay Packers, S Dwight Lowery of the Jets, and they also have a rising star in third-year CB Jason Verrett in the secondary.
So why would I make this pick for them? Two reasons.
First, over 40% of the mock drafts in Bolts From the Blue's Mock Draft Database last week have them taking Ramsey, so there's that. Second, the hilarity of the LULZ in the comments on that post as well as the comments made in this SB Nation NFL Mock Draft post that had them taking Ramsey made it impossible for me to do otherwise.
Here's a sampling from the BFTB mock database post:
I keep hearing that he has position versatility
And he may actually be better than Robinson. I'm all for it.

I would get a Jalen Ramsey (navy.) jersey day one if he goes to us
it'll replace my Weddle jersey in the rotation of jerseys I wear at the games with my Perryman (white.), Te'o (white.), Gates (powder blue.), Rivers (powder blue.), and Verrett (navy.) that guy can straight ball and has that ‘superstar' ability to change the secondary dramatically.

...and from the SB Nation Mock Draft post, where there was some groundswell for Joey Bosa:
I will put that team in the " most hated teams" category just under the Donkeys Raiders and Pats..

Though I like Ramsey and won't be mad if he is taken by the Chargers, it's the wrong pick. If Bosa is there he should be #3 pick. If TT doesn't take Bosa it will be a SMH moment.

Bosa has a lot of risk factors going against him.
I like the guy. I really do, but there is more going against the idea of this team investing in him than for. What separates Bosa from a player like Ramsey or even Ingram, is proven versatility. Bosa has only done one thing in the NFL and it has served him well. Ramsey was a stud no matter where he played at Florida State and Ingram was moved all around the field at South Carolina. Bosa? Not so much.
All I'm saying is that we can't afford to cram a square peg in a round hole. Ramsey is a sure thing. Bosa is a risk we can't afford.

If Ramsey's there take him. Kids gonna be selling jerseys all across the nation. I can see us regret not taking in the future
