Eli Apple, CB, Ohio St.
Eureka in the bathtub!!! This draft so favors the Redskins!! All the talent at their needs is being pushed down. Like throwing darts at the dartboard. This draft boils down to three positions that are in good physical shape on the draft board but anorexic at Redskins Park: defensive line, wide receiver and cornerback.
And yes, I've read about Mike linebacker Jaylon Smith in the first round for the Skins, but common sense: the first round is no place to gamble on a player that has no guarantee to play. Why go through that drama AGAIN?
It boiled down to defensive tackle and corner at this pick. Recent history shows wideouts in the first round for DC do not pan out. I went with cornerback because truthfully, I lost the coin toss. Truth is both positions were equally lean in talent. But I am happy the coin landed on cornerback. It is still a premier position, defensive tackle talent will be in abundance in the next round, and I asked myself this question: Who is the corner who starts opposite Bashaud Breeland? Hint: Not DeAngelo Hall. Hall still plays for the Skins, but as I type this, he is labeled a strong safety on Redskins.com. And if you can't answer that question without Google, my point has been made.\
Eli Apple at this stage of the draft is a steal! He tall enough to cover Dez, has the quick feet to cover ODB Jr., and will help in run support.
Washington needs to build on the Division Championship and getting a corner that is a classic NFC East type of player definitely helps. Despite being a Buckeye, DC will love him!
