Well...it could happen.
In NFL.com's most recent 2016 NFL Mock Draft, the New Orleans Saints selected Memphis QB Paxton Lynch in the first round, number twelve overall. About Paxton, NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah says:
Drew Brees isn't going to play forever and Sean Payton just signed a long-term extension. He needs to start planning for the future and I'm not sure Garrett Grayson is the answer.
You can't fault that logic in and of itself, but the Saints most definitely have bigger issues than Drew Brees's replacement. Fellow QBs Jared Goff and Carson Wentz went #1 and #2 respectively, leaving Lynch as the clear best QB on the board.
DE DeForest Buckner, CB Jalen Ramsey, LB Myles Jack, OT Laremy Tunsil, OT Ronnie Stanley, DE Joey Bosa, CB Vernon Hargraves, RB Ezekial Elliott, and LB Leonard Floyd were also all off the board (in that order) by the time the Saints were on the clock.
Still available for the Saints were Ole Miss DT Robert Nkemdiche (going to the Raiders at 14), Clemson DE Shaq Lawson (to the Lions at 16), Ole Miss standout WR Laquon Treadwell (to the Vikings at 23), and Saints Mock Draft favorite: Louisville DT Sheldon Rankins (who went to the Seahawks, all the way down at 26).
There were definitely some interest calls in this mock draft that will be sure to get the people talking. Share your thoughts in the comments. Send me presents.
