NFL Draft Results 2016: Saints Select Michael Thomas in Second Round

New Orleans surprises a lot of people by selecting the WR midway through the second round.

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Saints have selected Michael Thomas from Ohio St. with the 47th overall pick in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. While fans may be split on this pick, the Saints do need threats on the outside for Drew Brees to continue to throw to.

Thomas' former coach Urban Meyer, who served on the NFL Network draft apnnel, had high praise for the wideout, saying he had "great hands" and was "one tough SOB." According to some, Thomas was the top receiver in this year's draft.

The nephew of Keyshawn Johnson is a solid 6'2 and 217 pounds, giving him a leg up on the much smaller receivers in this year's draft. His hand size of 10 1/2 inches also bode well for his NFL career, as he only recorded 5 drops in his last 2 season in Columbus.

When watching film, the first thing the jumps out at you is his double-move ability. The stutter step move in his arsenal can turn a DB inside-out, helping him break away and get into open space. In the past 2 years, he hauled in 110 catches for 1,580 yards and 18 touchdowns.
