NFL Draft Results 2016: Saints Select Vonn Bell with Second Pick in Second Round

New, comments

The Saints make a surprise trade up with the New England Patriots to get back into the 2nd round and grab the safety they really wanted.

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Saints have selected Vonn Bell from Ohio St. with the 61st overall pick in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft after trading with the New England Patriots to move up back into the second round.

Drafting Bell certainly fills a need in the secondary and gives the Saints much needed depth in the defensive backfield. Bell was predicted to be drafted earlier so the Saints get pretty good value at 61st overall.. But I'm not sure it was worth giving up a 3rd and 4th round pick to get him. The Saints must really like what they see in him.

That makes two straight players from Ohio State for the Saints in this draft. I'm sure Will Smith would be very happy to see that.

The Saints now only have two picks remaining in the 2016 NFL Draft, one in the 5th round and one in the 7th round.
