Saints Give up Longest Punt Return in NFL History in Typical Saints Fashion

A quick trip down NFL memory lane to 1994 reminds us of those laughable losers.

The other day on the /r/NFL subreddit someone posted a video of the longest punt return in Rams franchise history. It was a 103-yard return during a game on October 23rd, 1994. As you may have guessed, it was against the Saints in the Superdome.

With a 37-27 lead late in the 4th quarter, Saints punter Tommy Barnhardt kicked from midfield and watched his punt bounce into the endzone. What happened next was typical Saints ineptitude...

The Saints actually held on to win the game 37-34, surprisingly. The NFL eventually changed the touchback rule 10 years later in 2004, making them automatic once the ball hits the end zone. The 103-yard return by Robert Bailey still stands as the longest in league history.

And yes, that is Joe Buck calling the game.
