The Saints rookies haven't even signed their contracts yet so naturally it's a good time to start predicting the final 53-man roster for the first week of the 2016 NFL season. Naturally.
And since it's so early, this is not an easy task. There are a lot of unanswered questions and unknown variables.
On defense, you'll notice only two DEs listed but a ton of DTs and LBs. I placed everyone here according to their listed position on the Saints official website. We've got to assume that some of these guys will be switching positions or moving around within the formation. Basically, the front seven is fluid and their listed positions are mere formalities at this point. I just simply tried to choose the best 15 or so players.
On the offensive line, there are a lot of new, young players. At least one undrafted player is going to have to make this final roster, if not more. That's what happens when you don't draft or sign free agents on the O-line. Anyone who can play multiple positions along the line will have a big advantage and more opportunity to crack the roster.
I'm basically just throwing a dart at the wall when it comes to the fifth wide receiver spot. There's a whole lot of uncertainty behind rookie Michael Thomas. I've got R.J. Harris listed in that spot currently, but even I don't believe that's going to happen. My gut actually tells me the Saints will sign some veteran WR at some point.
Let me know what you think! Feel free to offer your own roster projections in the comment section below.
