The Saints have needed to upgrade their defense every off-season for the past 10 years under Sean Payton and next year will apparently be no different, according to Todd McShay's incredibly early 2017 mock draft.
McShay has the Saints drafting outside linebacker Jarrad Davis from Florida and here's what he has to say:
17. New Orleans Saints
Jarrad Davis, OLB, Florida
Davis (6-2, 230) projects as an off-the-line linebacker with speed and athleticism who can hold up in coverage and get sideline to sideline in a hurry. He tied for second on the Gators last season in solo tackles (46) and finished third with 11.0 tackles for loss.
Mock draft picks change so much between the NFL Combine and actual draft day so I can't begin to imagine how much this mock draft will change over the course of an entire year. It's silly anyone even does this but there's not much else to discuss at this point so here we are.
What's also interesting about this mock draft is not the pick itself, but the fact that the draft order is generated by Football Outsiders using their early projections for 2016. Based on their entire draft order projection, that means the Outsiders think the Saints will finish second in the NFC South and not make the playoffs this season. Perhaps that's really what we should be discussing,
