Pete Prisco over at CBS Sports released his list of overrated players for each NFL team yesterday. His choice for the Saints was likely an easy one. Safety Jairus Byrd has yet to become the player he once was and live up to the gigantic 6-year contract he was offered two years ago. Here is what Prisco says:
He remains the starter at free safety, but he hasn't come close to living up to the expectations the team had for him when he signed a big contract in 2014. He looks like a completely different player than the one we saw in his early years in Buffalo. Injuries have limited him to 17 games in two seasons with the Saints, but when he's been on the field he hasn't played well. It's been a bad signing so far.
Love or hate Prisco, it’s pretty impossible to argue with any of that. Unless Byrd plays out of his mind in 2016, I’d say this signing could go down in history as one of the Mickey Loomis’ worst. So far it’s handicapped this team financially and benefited them in no way.
