What’s up Who Dats!? Today, I’d like to share my 2016 News Orleans Saints X-Factor players. Some of you may be familiar with this series, but for those who are not, it’s pretty simple. Prior to the 2015 season, I selected six Saints players who I felt had a little something extra to offer the team and possibly swing a few games in the Saints favor.

In some cases, the x-factor was simply based on talent, and in others my choice was based on intangibles such as toughness and leadership. I chose three players for offense and three players for defense. We’ll start with our first offensive player and I’ll release the other five players as the Saints roll through the preseason. Here is a link to the 2015 X-Factor reviews: Offense and Defense

Let’s get it started with our first offensive X-Factor – none other than running back Mark Ingram! Ingram made my x-factor list last year and after diversifying his skill set with better blitz pick-ups and showing off pretty good receiving skills, he is back. Ingram was pretty good in 2015 while putting up 769 yards on the ground (4.6 ypc) and 6 TDs to go along with a career-high 50 catches for 405 yards. The biggest knock on Ingram has been his durability and injuries that again derailed what would’ve been his best season as a professional.

You may wonder why a brittle running who’s never run for 1,000 yards in one season would warrant a spot on such a short list. His passion impresses me, and that is not something that every player brings with them to the game. Ingram is intense and fired up for football, and it shows when he does well or struggles. The burning desire to succeed in his face and on a good play, and he expresses himself in pronounced celebration.

When Ingram is struggling, he still conveys his heart and desire. I get riled up watching Ingram build momentum when he’s on and the offense is clicking. In 2016, it’s clear that the starting running back position is his, and as long as he finds a way to stay healthy, his heart and thunderous legs will carry him to his first 1,000-yard rushing season.

Well good people, that’ll conclude our first X-Factor player for 2016, be sure to come back for our next X-Factor! As always, thank you for reading and Be Cool Who Dats!
