Saints fall to Steelers 27-14, drop 8th straight preseason game

The New Orleans Saints lost another preseason game, and it’s becoming the norm.

If you’re keeping score at home, the New Orleans Saints lost their eighth straight preseason game. The black and gold dropped their home debut 27-14 to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The definitive highlight of the game came from a Willie Snead 17-yard touchdown grab, which you can see the replay here. Garrett Grayson also hit a wide open Tommylee Lewis in the third quarter on a 31-yard touchdown catch and run. Unfortunately, there weren’t too many other positives to talk about, at least not right now. The new video boards at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome were pretty cool.

With this being built up as the ‘dress rehearsal’ game, I’d say the Saints didn’t make the grade. The first-team defense didn’t give up too many big plays, but were clearly worked over by the Steelers’ quick attack. Antonio Brown welcomed rookie De’Vante Harris to the NFL, and the team’s offensive line struggled again. There were a ton of missed penalties, too.

First roster cuts come on Tuesday (8/30), and I think we might not be surprised with some of the players that end up on the list.

Injuries

  • Michael Hoomanwanui left early in the first quarter, as he had his leg rolled up. You can watch the replay here, if you dare.
  • Terron Armstead exited early under his own power. He did not look like himself in early action.
  • Daniel Lasco took a helmet-to-helmet shot by Steelers defender Vince Williams. Lasco was down on the field for a couple of minutes, but was able to walk off under his own power to the locker room.
  • On punt coverage in the fourth quarter, Jimmy Pruitt was hit and taken to the trainers table. He was eventually carted off.
  • Marcus Murphy was hit hard late on a helmet-to-helmet shot, and was helped off by trainers.
