Former New Orleans Saints TE Benjamin Watson Placed on IR

The 35 year old tight end tore his Achilles in his team's third preseason game.

The New Orleans Saints are set to host the Baltimore Ravens in both teams' final preseason game of the year. This game was to represent a homecoming of sorts for Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson, who spent 2013-2015 as a member of the New Orleans Saints.

Watson, taking over as the starting Tight End after the trade of Jimmy Graham to Seattle, had a career year in New Orleans in 2015. He finished the season with 825 yards and 6 TDs, both of which tied or broke career highs. Watson was also beloved in the New Orleans community. He was a finalist for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award and released a book Under Our Skin: Getting Real About Race--And Getting Free From the Fears and Frustrations That Divide Us.

Even though he is no longer a member of the Saints, many Saints fans were going to cheer for him to find continued success after signing in Baltimore. Any time a season-ending preseason injury occurs to a player, football fans are saddened, but Saints fans especially feel for this one.

Speedy recovery, Ben. We wish you the best.
