Barnes latched on with the Saints during the final week of the preseason when the team was having offensive line struggles, but he did not survive final cuts.
Having turned 34 in April, the veteran tackle could be used as an option if the Saints find themselves without tight end Josh Hill this week. He might prove to be an improvement over Tim Lelito, who served as the team’s sixth offensive lineman in some jumbo packages in Sunday’s loss to the Oakland Raiders.
Barnes has been in the NFL since 2005, and was originally a second-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
