Report: Saints, Drew Brees resume contract talks

According to Jason La Canfora, the Saints and Drew Brees have picked contract talks up again

Per CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora, the New Orleans Saints and quarterback Drew Brees have picked contract talks back up. The report broke Monday morning. According to La Canfora, Brees is seeking a 4-year deal worth $100 million.

As it’s been said before by Brees, he doesn’t have a desire to discuss a new deal once the regular season starts. So, in theory the Saints would have until Saturday to get a deal in place for the superstar quarterback. However, not everyone buys that. Even if all parties can’t come to an agreement before the Week 1 opener, all is not lost. I could realistically see something happen during the team’s Week 5 bye.

The biggest hang-up in negotiations between agent Tom Condon and general manager Mickey Loomis could be in the guaranteed money of the deal, as Brees could be seeking some 65-70 percent of his new contract fully guaranteed.
