Just as everyone predicted, just several days before the opening game against the Oakland Raiders, the New Orleans Saints have made a kicker change.
As previously reported, Wil Lutz has gone from being unemployed to practice squad material to an NFL starter in just a short time. According to The Advocate’s Nick Underhill and NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, Kai Forbath is being released, and Lutz is your new starting kicker.
With the Baltimore Ravens, Lutz went 2-for-3 in three preseason games. He had a long of 39 yards and made his lone extra point. There was no way that he was going to beat out the established Justin Tucker, but did enough to warrant a good look from the Saints. Lutz also had two touchbacks on nine kickoffs.
If the math is accurate, then the Saints have one open roster spot available. At this point, it’s anyone’s guess as to what will happen.
