Punters rarely get the respect they deserve in the NFL, but this Sunday pits two of the league’s best when the New Orleans Saints host the Oakland Raiders.
Thomas Morstead and Marquette King flew down to Atlanta at the end May to battle in a head-to-head punting challenge at Kohl’s Kicking Showcase Camp. This competition, hosted by kicking director Jamie Kohl, consisted of each punter having balls snapped to them and having their hang time and distance measured.
The first punter to reach five was the victor, and I’ll just say that the competition was very entertaining to watch.
Camp participants on the losing side had to do 30 push-ups. After an intense battle that saw Morstead leap out in front and King counter to take the lead, the victory went to ‘The Leg’.
“He’s the OG, I’ll give him respect,” King said in the video.
When these two teams collide for their Week 1 meeting, you can fully expect field position to play a large part in both team’s plan of attack. King and Morstead will be players that are directly responsible for pinning the opposing team’s offense deep.
