Per the NFL Transaction Wire, the New Orleans Saints have signed seven players to reserve/future deals on Monday. The team has added guard John Fullington, quarterback Garrett Grayson, tight end Garrett Griffin, defensive tackle Ashaad Mabry, tight end Jake Stoneburner, wide receiver Jordan Williams-Lambert, and defensive tackle Justin Zimmer for 2017.
Many might recall the vast majority of these players were all competing for spots on the team’s roster and played during the preseason. These were seven players on their practice squad, with Zimmer being the latest addition in mid-December.
These deals are very common, as many teams signed players to these deals today. These contracts are typically for one year to help fill out a team’s 90-man roster, and also prevents other teams from poaching promising talent. The Saints have found success in the past with these kind of deals, as Tim Hightower joined the team on a reserve/future deal on Jan. 4, 2015, which panned out pretty well.
