In the three times QB Matt Ryan has been selected to the Pro Bowl, Saints QB Drew Brees has been there too. In the irony of ironies, New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees is now replacing Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan (who will regrettably be advancing to the Super Bowl in Houston) as a Pro Bowl alternate in 2016.
This is greatly deserved for Drew after he had another stellar year, leading the league in passing yards for the seventh time in his career, the fifth time in his career he’s eclipsed the 5,000 yard mark. He threw for 471 completions, breaking his own NFL record set in 2011.
This erases the lack of Saints on the 2016 Pro Bowl roster but merely on a technicality. Drew Brees should have absolutely already been on his way to the Pro Bowl, along with teammates Cam Jordan and Michael Thomas. It’s still possible that either or both get added as last-minute substitutes due to injuries or the like, but like Drew, they should have been in already.
In any event, congratulations, Drew, for yet another NFL honor. Let’s go ahead and get you into the Pro Bowl next year too, OK?
