According to multiple reports, the New Orleans Saints have picked up the pace on their defensive assistant coaching vacancies. Here’s your quick rundown.

  • Per The Advocate’s Nick Underhill, the Saints recently met with former Alabama defensive line coach Bo Davis.
  • ESPN’s Adam Caplan has reported that Jason Tarver interviewed for the linebacker coach position. Tarver has been the linebacker coach for the 49ers since 2015, and was Dennis Allen’s defensive coordinator from 2012-2014 with the Raiders.
  • The Sporting News’ Alex Marvez reports that the team interviewed Brian Vangorder on Tuesday for a defensive staff position, and will interview Mike Nolan on Wednesday. Marvez noted that Nolan was in the running for the linebackers coach position for the Jaguars, but withdrew for other opportunities.

Vangorder would be an easily recognizable name (or face) for the Saints, as he served as the Falcons defensive coordinator from 2008-2011. Nolan would be an intriguing name, as his coaching background is essentially all defense. Coincidentally, Nolan took over as the Falcons defensive coordinator after Vangorder, serving in that position from 2012-2014.

The Saints missed out on Jim Tomsula, who ended up landing in Washington despite the team being interested and being set to interview him.
