Tyus Bowser probably isn’t a household name, but he’s a favorite of Houston Cougars football fans. The workout warrior won the weigh-in this week at the Senior Bowl, posting an impressive 6-foot-3, 244-pound frame with 33-inch arms.
Those measurables bode well for his future along with his college production; playing on a limited basis as a situational pass rusher for much of his career, Bowser still put up 12 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks in just eight games as a starter in 2016.
Bowser missed five games last season after receiving a broken bone in his face from a fight with a teammate, which was ironically caused from getting too competitive in a team-building exercise. That fiery attitude will need to be tempered once he’s joined the pros.
For what it’s worth, well-connected Sirius XM Fantasy football affiliate Roster Watch first listed the Saints’ interest in Bowser among a string of updates from discussions around the NFL community at the Senior Bowl.
This was followed up with by NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein indicating that scouts he spoke with believe Bowser will be a top-100 draft selection.
After speaking with evaluators at the Senior Bowl, I feel confident in saying that UH OLB Tyus Bowser will go no later than the 3rd round.— Lance Zierlein (@LanceZierlein) January 25, 2017
I didn’t focus on Bowser in Tuesday’s first practice session, but I’ll be sure to dial in on him throughout the week. Bowser has a reputation as a complete edge defender who can play on the line of scrimmage. I look forward to seeing him compete.
